Esther Vilar is an Argentine-German writer, sociologist, and philosopher. She is best known for her controversial book "The Manipulated Man", which was published in 1971. The book was initially dismissed as a sexist rant, but it became a runaway bestseller and brought Vilar international attention. Vilar argued that women have the power to manipulate men and that men are the true victims of gender inequality. She also criticized feminism and argued that it was a movement rooted in female privilege and entitlement. Vilar has been both praised and criticized for her views, with some hailing her as a visionary and others branding her a reactionary. In addition to "The Manipulated Man", Vilar has written a number of other books on topics ranging from psychoanalysis to existentialism.
